Being unbuttoned in public is one of those unfortunate scenarios that anyone prone to embarrassment can only dream of.
While many of us may have experienced this humiliating situation too many times, there is a very simple trick that can prevent it from happening again.
Zippers were first invented in the mid 19th century with a convenient locking feature that prevents the zipper from slipping off in a certain position.
Once your zippered garment is zipped up, all you need to do is make sure the zipper is snug against the locking teeth. It is so simple.
If the zipper is pointing down but slightly raised, you can easily unzip the zipper.
However, when it lies on top of clothing, it holds securely and resists any force trying to pull it down.
Some zippers have a small pin on the zipper handle that fits between the teeth of the zipper and the hole in the zipper slider when the slider is lying flat.
On other zippers, the slider handle may have a hinge mechanism with a pin inserted between the teeth of the zipper when the slider is lying horizontally and facing down.
While the idea of auto-locking zippers is not a new invention, this very useful feature is definitely new to us.
Despite some people’s general apprehension about taking off their straps and going out, others who wear jeans don’t seem to be shy about showing off a little more skin in public.
Earlier this month, the Los Angeles-based fashion label caused widespread confusion with its “extremely tailored” jeans, which retail for $168 (£122).
The jeans were held on top by a belt, and the models’ legs and buttocks were almost completely exposed in the multi-strip demo strips.
“Someone please tell me this is a joke shop and no one is stupid enough to pay $168 for this,” one person tweeted.
